Every year, the eyes of the world are on Munich when we hear the famous "O'zapft is!"
Once the "Wiesn-Wirte" ("landlords") have processed into the grounds in beautifully decorated horse-drawn wagons, the Wiesn are offical opened. Then, the first beer barrel is tapped in the Schottenhamel tent by Munich's serving mayor.
The 12-gun salute that follows this ceremony signals to the other tents that they can start serving beer, and the hustle and bustle of the Oktoberfest can begin.
The beer tents open at 10:00 am on Monday to Friday, and close at 11:30 pm. On Saturdays and Sundays, they start serving at 9:00 am. Simply ask at MAXIMILIAN MUNICH Apartments & Hotel for more handy tips for the Oktoberfest in Munich.

Oktoberfest etiquette: dirndl bow on the right or left?
The Wiesn is a place for encounters and interaction. With the help of the bows on their dirndl aprons, the ladies can easily indicate whether they are up for a little flirting.
So where should the bow be?
On the left: If the dirndl is tied on the left (as seen by the wearer), she is signalling that she is single.
On the right: No matter how pretty the lady is, she is taken or even married – so keep your distance.
In the middle: If you think a bow tied in the middle means uncertainty on their marital status, you are very wide of the mark. According to tradition, a centre bow means the lady is still a virgin.
At the back: This can mean one of two things. The lady may be a widow. The waitresses at the Wiesn also tie their aprons at the back.
